It was hard to imagine that Facebook will become so powerful, or the extend to which Ajax will affect the way users interact with the web and each other. Not many did see the significance of both back in 2004. A web where the gap in between users and developers is unbridgeable. A web where the role of the user is not to build the web, but to generate content and data. These events mark the beginning of a new era: a “modern” web, the web that we are still in today. What were the most important developments for web history in 2004?
